Nevada High School Girls Tennis faced tough match at Monett

The Nevada High School Girls Tennis team faced off against Monett on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Despite their best efforts, the Tigers experienced a hard-fought defeat, with the final score standing at 2-7. This result brings the team's record to 1-6 for the season, with a conference record of 0-1.

The Varsity Singles matches kicked off the day's action, showcasing the individual skills and determination of the players. Nevada's senior standout Hennessy Brown (4-3) took on the challenge of facing off against Monett's Elizabeth Smith. Smith managed to edge out a victory with a score of 8-5.

Nevada's junior Mia Fulton (2-5) showed up with her A-game against Monett's Serenity Laning. Fulton's skillful play paid off as she secured a decisive win with a score of 8-3. Nevada's junior Allie McCaffree (0-7) faced off against Monett's Vayla Smith. Despite a strong effort, McCaffree experienced a 1-8 loss.

Nevada's senior Preslee Bower (3-1) triumphed over Monett's Emma Parrigon with an 8-4 victory. Nevada's sophomore Braelyn Harth (0-4) struggled to find her rhythm, resulting in a 0-8 loss to Monett's Ruby Smith. Likewise, sophomore Lailee Chadd (0-3) faced a challenging match against Monett's Valery Moncivaiz, ending with a 1-8 loss.

The Varsity Doubles matches continued the competition. Nevada's duo of Hennessy Brown and Preslee Bower (3-2) played against Monett's Elizabeth Smith and Vayla Smith. Despite their efforts, they fell short with a score of 3-8. Meanwhile, Nevada's Mia Fulton and Allie McCaffree (1-4) put up a formidable fight against Monett's Serenity Laning and Emma Parrigon, finishing with a narrow 6-8 loss. The duo of Braelyn Harth and Lailee Chadd (1-4) also faced a tough challenge against Monett's Ruby Smith and Valery Moncivaiz, concluding with a score of 1-8.

Coach Tom Rea commended the Tigers for their unrelenting efforts against a highly skilled Monett team. Coach Rea highlighted Mia Fulton's outstanding performance, describing it as perhaps her best singles showing of the season. He also praised Hennessy Brown and Preslee Bower for their strong performance on the court. "The Tiger's Hennesy Brown and Monett's Elizabeth Smith matched strength, speed, and precise hitting in an epic match which slipped away from Brown at the end," noted Rea. In addition, Coach Rea stated that Allie McCaffree's play has improved significantly despite a singles loss.
