During the annual Missouri Press Association (MPA) Convention held over the weekend, the journalism community came together to celebrate outstanding achievements in the field. Among the notable recognitions, Sarah Haney, Editor of the Nevada Daily Mail, was announced as the third-place winner in the "Best Coverage of Government" category.

The Missouri Press Foundation's Better Newspaper Contest is a prestigious event where newspapers across the state of Missouri submit their best articles for consideration. Haney's award-winning piece, titled "Citizens voice concerns with Long-Term Care Board during city council meeting," originally ran in the Friday, Aug. 19, 2022 edition of the Nevada Daily Mail. The article centered around a well-attended Nevada city council meeting, during which community members voiced their concerns regarding the proposed closure of the Barone Alzheimer's Care Center facility.

Since the publication of Haney's article, the Barone Alzheimer's Care Center facility has closed its doors, with many of its residents being relocated to the Moore-Few Care Center. Haney's in-depth reporting not only captured the essence of the community's concerns but also shone a light on a significant local issue that continues to affect residents in the region.
