William Gene (Bill) Carroll, 86, Nevada, MO passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. Bill was born January 19, 1937, near St. Paul, KS to Gerald Edwin Carroll and Teresa Eva (Teddy) (Schoenhofer) Carroll.

Bill graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Walnut, KS with the class of 1954. He was the owner, operator, and lessee of two filling stations in Walnut, and was a fry cook in a fast-food restaurant in Wichita, KS. Bill sold insurance door to door in Oklahoma City, OK and in Nevada, MO. He was also the Building Inspector for the City of Nevada for sixteen years, retiring in 1998.

Bill married Peggy Diskin in 1956 and five children were born to this union: Mary Ann, Mark, Steven, Charlotte, and John.

Bill married Norma Fanning in 1968, and one daughter, Natalie, was born.

Bill built his home in Umber View Heights, a little South of Stockton, MO. He loved his home and living close to the lake. He had a boat, and loved to go waterskiing, to the Rock Quarry to tie up with friends, visit and have a few beers. For years in the fall, he would have his annual Octoberfest, with food, drink, and lots of stories. Bill was a pool player, and he and his friend Dutch would go to pool tournaments around the vicinity on Friday nights during the winter months, and sometimes there would be Poker games at the long table upstairs at his house. In the summertime he would play golf at the Stockton Country Club even getting a “Hole in One” in 2015, which was quite an accomplishment.

Bill was a collector of many things, going to garage sales, auctions, and antique stores. He often times would bring something home that would need to be refinished, so he would do the refinishing and then resell it.

His family takes comfort that towards the end of his life, Bill accepted Christ as his personal Savior and now resides in Heaven.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, two brothers, one granddaughter, one nephew, and an infant daughter, Mary Ann. He is survived by his five children, Mark Carroll (Janice), Pratt, KS, Steve Carroll, Richmond, MO, Charlotte Smardo, Kansas City, MO, John Carroll (Kim), Iola, KS, and Natalie Foreman, Nevada, MO; and two sisters, Marilyn Carroll, and Jane McGuire, both of Colorado; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private committal will be held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in near Walnut, KS at a later date.
