Harold Dean Boehs

Our beloved husband, dad and grandpa Harold Dean Boehs was born on May 28, 1947, to Wilmer and Martha (Schmidt) Boehs in Montezuma, KS. He passed away Saturday, June 14, 2025, as the result of a bicycle accident.
Harold grew up in Goltry, Oklahoma, where he attended most of his school years. He talked about the days they butchered chickens and when he and his brother, Art delivered papers. He had fond memories of Glade Schmidt teaching youth boys Sunday School classes. Playing softball games and camping were the reward for scriptures memorized. He enjoyed going on a wheat harvest run from Texas to Montana, and while he was gone his family moved to Nevada, Missouri. He attended his senior year and graduated from Nevada High School.
Upon recognizing his need of a savior, Harold gave his heart to God and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on December 30, 1961, by Minister Leroy Wedel at Goltry, Oklahoma. He remained faithful until the end.
On July 24, 1966, he married me, Velma Jantz, at Rich Hill, Missouri. We shared the joys and sorrows of life for almost fifty-nine years. The day after the wedding we left for Grand Rapids, Michigan for 1-W service. During these two years a lifetime of memories were made, friendships were forged and it was here that our first child was born. Back in Missouri, three more children were born. After working various jobs, Dad hired on at 3M Corporation in Nevada, Missouri, being one of the first 100 employees. After 33 years he retired from 3M. Of the different part- time jobs after retirement, delivering flowers and volunteering at the hospital were highlights to him.
Dad was an outgoing person, and no one was a stranger to him. He was an avid Ford fan and would contend with anyone who chose otherwise. He faced life with boyish enthusiasm and wasn’t afraid to try new things. We remember him taking us fishing and camping. The last several years, riding his bike and playing shuffle board were his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed playing games with the grandchildren. He was a kind and patient man but punctuality was important to him.
One of Dad’s greatest sorrows was the loss of their son-in-law, leaving Carla without her daddy. Without hesitation, he embraced the role of a father figure, offering love and support. He spent countless hours with Carla, creating memories through outdoor adventures and playing games, always making sure she felt cared for and cherished.
His survivors include his loving wife, Velma; children Marilyn and Doyle Yost, Jeanette and Sidney Nightingale, of Ulysses, Kansas, Eugene Boehs, Harwood, MO, and Krista and Paul Schneider, Walker, MO; seven grandchildren, Ann, Lynissa, Radley, Kadyn, Carla, Trenton, and Karsten; ten great-grandchildren; four step- grandchildren; and brothers, Art (Alice) and Calvin, both of Nevada, MO and Mark of Monett, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, two sisters, one brother-in-law, and one son-in-law.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the Living Faith Mennonite Church, Walker, MO, with pastors Shelby Koehn, Phillip Schmidt, and John Becker officiating. Interment will follow at the Living Faith Mennonite Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 17 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Living Faith Mennonite Church.
