Marie Therese (Terry) Smith Gatewood

Marie Therese (Terry) Smith Gatewood, was born on 9/13/47, she passed on 9/14/2025. The first of seven children to Gerald Q. and Theresa J. Fritz Smith at the Nevada

Hospital. She was the third grandchild of 23 grandchildren of Harry J. and Selma Miller Smith, her paternal grandparents of Nevada.

Terry attended St. Joseph School next to St. Mary's Catholic Church from 1953 to 1961, 1st gr-8th gr. After her 8th grade graduation she went to Nevada High School and

graduated in 1965. Upon graduation she attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, where she met her husband, Jim Gatewood. They married on June 30th, 1967. Terry worked at University of Missouri in Columbia and retired from there after over 30 years.

Terry is survived by her husband, T. James Gatewood of Columbia, son Damon Brandt Gatewood (Michele and step-grandchild, Maddy) of Olathe, KS; daughter Ashli Renner (Tom); granddaughters, Austine Brooke Renner and Brittani Michele Humble (Josh) and great-grandsons, Omar, Kolton, & Payton all of Columbia. She is also survived by

sisters Cheryl Spittle (Fred deceased) of Lancaster, PA; Veronica Anderson (Stan) of Hallettsville, TX; Denise Prokop(Joseph) of St. Joseph, MO; brothers Michael Q. (

(Brenda deceased) and James R.(Cheryl) Smith of Nevada. In addition, there are 19

nieces and nephews (two deceased nephews & one deceased niece) and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both parents, Gerald and Theresa, as well as her brother, Gerald Mark, whose widow, Debbie, survives.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Terry on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 1 :00 p.m. at the Nevada 3M clubhouse, on Remarcke Boulevard, Nevada MO., which is located

behind 3M 2120 E. Austin. A lunch will be provided by the family.
