Robert G. Newsome Jr.

Robert G. Newsome Jr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Freeman West in Joplin, MO.

Robert was born August 8th, 1952, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Marietta Harris Newsome and Robert G. Newsome Sr. He married Donna Marie Phillips on June 20, 1970, and she survives of the home. Robert loved his family, to hunt, fish, and cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs.

Robert was raised in Roscoe and Osceola, Missouri and for many years he worked at B&D in Ft. Scott, KS, as a mechanic, until he decided to work at O’Sullivan’s in Lamar, MO, for several years. After all his years of working hard, he decided to raise chickens at home.

In addition to his wife Donna, he is survived by three children:  Steven (Tammy) Newsome, Robin (Bob) Benn, and Stacy (Brandon) Newsome;  several grandchildren: Lauren (Orlando) Sanchez, Shane Newsome, Robert Benn Jr., Mason (Kelsey) Benn, Weston Benn, Tyler (Hailey) Brannan, Troy (Samantha) Brannan, Dominic (Mindy) Stevens, Jordan (Marty) Keithley, Brittany (Blake) Holder; and several great-grandchildren: Avery, Owen, Lainey and Valerie Sanchez; Avery, Hunter, and Addison Benn; Emmett and Ian Brannan; Lexi, Jayden, Aubree Stevens; Silas, Ashlynn Keithley, and Blakelynn and Bryer Holder; one brother: Frank (Esther) Newsome. Three sisters: Judy (Sam) Masten, Patty (Bill) Garrett, Virginia Arkel; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Herbie Meek and Ricky Newsome, and one sister, Dorothy Moreno.

Memorial service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO, with Pastor Chad Bailey officiating.
