Dean S. Folkner

Dean S. Folkner, 94, Moundville, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at St. Johns Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., following a brief illness. He was born in Pawnee, Okla., on Sept. 18, 1909, to John Aaron Folkner and Evealine Elizabeth Key Folkner.

Folkner was a Staff Sgt. in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the 79th Airborne 5th Airforce on July 29, 1945. After his discharge, he came to Moundville and bought a farm south and east of Moundville on Little Drywood Creek where he farmed and raised cattle until his retirement at age 89. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Alamosa, Colo., the American Legion and the VFW. He never married.

Dean is survived by one brother, Ralph Folkner, Nevada, Mo.; six sisters, Allene Hiestand, Nevada, Mo., Johnnie Medley, Moundville, Mo., Bessie Folkner, of Arizona, Nadine Moore, Claremore, Okla., Evea Jordan, Nevada, Mo., and Verna Overstreet, Lee's Summit, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Inez Garrett and Juanita (Patterson) Tooley.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, Mo., with the Rev. Paul Mooney officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
