Company A deployment ceremony touched lives

Dear editor:

I attended the deployment ceremony for Company A 735th Support Battalion of the Missouri Army National Guard. It was only fitting and proper that we do, but I was most impressed by the camaraderie of the troops and the over-riding commitment to duty.

I had the opportunity to visit with them and their families at Marmaduke Park a couple weeks ago.

They were all ready and willing to make the sacrifices for us no matter the apprehension in the backs of their minds, one for the other.

There was a whole lot of courage in that parking lot today.

Behind the nervous smile, the held back tears and that lump in the throat that interrupted speech was the assurances that "we'll do what we have to here, too."

Our troops and their families deserved and appreciated the over-flow crowd and the heart felt send-off you gave them today.

Be faithful to visit and check on the families, write regularly to our troops and God's speed for your safe return home.

Anti-Van a success because of the community

Dear editor:

I want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for an the effort that students, parents, teachers and staff give to make Nevada Middle School Anti-Van a success.

This project remains uncommon among school districts. Many schools and communities experience problems during Halloween that are not found in Nevada.

This year 352 students attended Anti-Van activities. More than 30 parents and 30 staff members supported this program.

This project takes a great deal of time, effort, and hard work. Parents, teachers, and local businesses give this effort to see that Anti-Van is a success. These people are to be commended for this special night that they provide for our kids.

Thank you,

Tyson Beshore
