Special to the Herald

Ernest and Barbara Nikodim will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception hosted by their family on Dec. 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Walker Community Building.

The former Barbara Harding and Ernest Nikodim were married on Dec. 26, 1954, at the home of the bride's parents, near Virgil City, Mo., by Carl England. In October 1956 the couple moved to their current residence east of Nevada. The couple had six children, including a baby, Ernest Eugene, who died at birth in 1955.

In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Mrs. Nikodim worked for several factories and retired from H & R Block in 2000. The Nikodims are currently semi-retired and are members of the Community Christian Church in Nevada and the Ozark Trails Studebaker club.

The reception will be hosted by the couple's children and grandchildren: Darrell and Julie (Wood) Nikodim, Mike and Kathy (Nikodim) Newman, Phil and Susan (Nikodim) Thompson, Russ and Debbie (Nikodim) Jensen, Mike and Julie (Weber) Nikodim, James and Lacey (Nikodim) Washburn, Brian Nikodim, Brad Newman, Kayla Newman, and Chase Thompson.

The couple requests the omission of gifts, but would appreciate a memory shared in writing.
