Walter Roy Headrick Sr., 80, Richards, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin. He was born on Oct. 10, 1924, in Fort Scott, Kan., to Richard Byron Headrick and Mary Frances Barnett Headrick. He married Elsie G. Wagner on April 13, 1944, in Fort Scott, Kan., and she survives of the home.

He grew up and lived in Vernon County, and Bourbon County, Kan. He graduated from Hume High School, Hume. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, worked in several body and fender shops, at Bordens' Condensary and Buel Cabinets. In the spring of 1957 the family moved from Fort Scott to the Wagner Farm at Stotesbury. He worked at the Nevada State Hospital for 18 years and retired to continue farming. He was a member and Sunday school teacher at the Church of God Holiness, Fort Scott, Kan.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Elsie, include five daughters, Mary Ann Schmidt, Hamilton, Mo., Judy Carol Headrick, Stotesbury, Donna Sue Downing, Mound City, Kan., Linda Diane Headrick, Fort Scott, Kan., and Jeanette Elaine Weber, Gilbert, Ariz.; one son, Walter Roy Headrick Jr., Richards; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Genevieve Armstrong, Fort Scott, Kan.; and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Mark Stettler and Reuben Lowry officiating. Interment will follow in Richland Cemetery, Richards. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7-8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
