Wilkerson badly injured when drawn into a caterpillar tractor

Oscar Wilkerson met with a very serious and unfortunate accident Monday afternoon, in which he suffered severe injuries and went through a most terrifying hour when he was caught in a caterpillar tractor in the storeroom just east of the subway. Wilkerson says he was putting shoes on the tractor, backing it back and forth, when his foot was caught between the tractor fender and grouser and fell between the frame and wheel and his two legs were drawn in and crushed almost to the knees.

He was able to reach the clutch and stop the tractor but he could not extricate himself and was held probably 30 minutes before he was discovered.

Harry Modglin was first called and then "Buck" Osborne, the machinist, and after several minutes of fast work, Wilkerson was released. Wilkerson was taken to the Amerman Hospital, where his injuries received attention. His right leg was fearfully mangled and fractured and his left leg cut and torn.
