Elmer Eugene Woody, 75, of Perkins, Okla., died Wednesday, July 6, 2005.

He was born in Pawnee Rock, Kan., on July 1, 1930, to Roy Terrell and Clara Catherine Woody. He married Darlouise Fagan-Shurtz on Sept. 20, 1997.

At the age of 15, his family moved to Moundville. After graduating from Nevada High School in 1948, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked 42 years in the insurance business in Texas and Oklahoma; the last 26 years were with the Oklahoma State Insurance Fund. He retired in 1997 as division administrator. He was a Master Mason and a member of Toastmasters International, the Exchange Club, the Elks Club, Cimarron Trails Golf Association, Oklahoma Claims Association and various other official positions in the insurance industry.

Survivors include his wife, Darlouise, of the home; two sons, Allen Terrell Woody, of Mexico, Mo., and Ward Clark Woody, Cumming, Ga.; three stepchildren, David Shurtz, Cassandra Johnson, and Lucinda Shirm; three grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; one brother, Lee Woody; one sister, Marilyn Thomas, Moundville; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert and Wilbur Woody.

Services were held on Saturday, July 9, at 10:30 a.m., in the Perkins Christian Church, Perkins, Okla., with the Rev. Bob Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Perkins Cemetery, under the direction of Strode Funeral Home, from Stillwater, Okla. Pallbearers were Phillip Fagan, Dennis Fagan, Jon Bartram, Roy Branstetter, George Brun, Glenn Hoffmeyer, David Swain and Lloyd Moorman. Honorary pallbearers were John Hopper, Mel Miller, Lewis Kenzie, Wendell Sadler, Richard Mangold, David Lester and Charles Wall.
