Donald Lowell Smith, 45, Fort Scott, Kan., died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, the result of an automobile accident near St. Louis.

He was born Aug. 20, 1959, in Fort Scott, the son of Delbert Lowell Smith and Cathern Ward Smith.

He married Shirley Norris in 1981. She preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 2000.

He was currently employed with Peerless Products as a field service technician. He was retired from the National Guard following 22 years of service. In his youth, he attended the First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include a son, Derek Smith, Fort Scott; his mother, Cathern Smith, Fort Scott; father and stepmother, Delbert and Marilyn Smith, Pittsburg, Kan.; brother, Raymond Smith, Fort Scott; and two sisters, Sue Cannon, Edwardsville, Kan., and Janet Kovacic, Stark, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Jared Witt will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m., Friday, in the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in National Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
