Farewell to Lentz

Dear Editor,

I would like to share these few words with your readers.  As a Board member of the Fire Fighters Association of Missouri and a very close personal friend of Chief Lonnie Lentz, I was overwhelmed by the citizenship, and respect that the people of Nevada, and the city government showed towards Chief Lentz. Knowing Chief Lentz for over 25 years, I'm sure the big boy himself was looking down on us that Thursday, not realizing how much he really meant to all of us.

Lonnie, we'll see you on the other side.

Jason Turner

FFAM District 6 board member

Thanks for your support

During this holiday season, as Americans gather with their loved ones to give thanks, the Vernon County Chapter of the American Red Cross would like to thank you for another year of support. Because of the generosity of community residents, the Vernon County Chapter American Red Cross has been able to reach out and help those affected by the recent hurricanes while still meeting the needs of your neighbors.

Hurricanes are just part of the story. Around the clock and every day of the year, the Vernon County Red Cross is responding to local disasters, teaching first aid and CPR classes, collecting life-saving blood, serving as a life link for members of the military and their families or helping communities near or far during a time of crisis.

The Vernon County chapter is your local conduit to care and compassion. Your generous contributions of time, blood and money enable our volunteers and employees to carry out the lifesaving mission of the American Red Cross.

Salute!

Dear editor:

I would like to be one of the first to congratulate all of the Nevada High School ROTC cadets who participated in the Veterans Day program in the high school gym last Friday.

Very good. Very professional! You made us all proud.

I also would like to congratulate and salute the NHS Tiger Pride Band for doing a wonderful job. The "Salute to America's Finest" was flawless. Great job. Thank You!

Mo. Army National Guard, Ret.
