By Missouri Governor Matt Blunt

During this time each year, Melanie and I pause and reflect on the many blessings for which we have to be thankful. I am particularly thankful this year for the birth of our son Branch Blunt who has grown so fast and touched us so deeply that words cannot quite describe our love for him. Parenthood has its challenges, but the blessings and joy brought by a child reveal themselves when you hold that tiny person in your arms and realize the miraculous gift God gives through children. We are truly thankful for Branch. I am thankful for our teachers and educators, for the work they do everyday to prepare and mold tomorrow's leaders. We must continue to do more to show our teachers how much we appreciate their contribution to our children and our future. I am thankful that I live in a free country where we can discuss and debate important issues without fear or thought of punishment. A country where opportunity abounds and dreams come true. And I am exceedingly thankful for the men and women, past and present, who fight for that freedom selflessly and bravely. I am thankful for America.

I am thankful for Missouri's dedicated workforce. Together you work to meet the needs of all Missourians. Your commitment to serving your fellow citizens in all trades, positions and fields is truly something to honor and recognize -- our workers are second to none in the world. I am thankful for Missouri employers, for their tireless investment in Missouri and for their daily efforts to support Missouri's growing economy. Missourians are benefiting from the results of your labors as seen through the creation of new family-supporting jobs. I am thankful for Missourians' generous contributions to our state and its citizens. As I continue to visit charitable organizations across Missouri as part of my Show-Me Solutions initiative, I am impressed by the selfless donations given to meet our neighbors' needs. I am mindful that there are Missourians who are sick, poor, down on their luck and in need of help. I am committed to finding and highlighting innovative solutions to assist those least fortunate among us. I am thankful for the organizations across the state doing what they can in this endeavor -- we will be successful. As we celebrate this season of Thanksgiving, I am thankful not only for my family and friends but for all Missourians who help to make our state such a wonderful place to live and work.

Melanie, Branch and I wish you a happy Thanksgiving! God bless you.
