Legion hosts Thanksgiving dinner

Friday, November 25, 2005

Jeff Day, who contributed $2,000 to the American Legion for an annual program to provide toys for needy children, joins them for their annual Thanksgiving dinner. Day, who is from Colorado, is transferring his membership to the Nevada Post. The Legion provides a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with ham or turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, hot rolls and pie for dessert. Day's contribution, as well as a $1,500 from Wal-Mart, $500 from Scott Buerge at Metz Bank and numerous $100 contributions, has helped to replenish the Legion's fund that pays for the Thanksgiving and Christmas events. Although the Legion holds fund-raising events all year to pay for such activities, this fall they found their fund unexpectedly depleted, and without the assistance of these businesses and individuals, they would not have been able to hold these events.
