Dorothy Adeline Burgess, 75, Nevada, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, at Moore-Few Care Center following a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 14, 1929, in Milo, to Lesley Roy Nichols and Ursula Ann Lauppe. She and Alva "Dutch" Burgess were married Feb. 9, 1973, in Nevada. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Dorothy was born and reared in Vernon County and spent most all of her life here. She was a member of the Community Christian Church. Dorothy worked for many years as a seamstress at Nelly Don later known as Junior House, retiring in 1986.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Elmore, Warsaw, Mo.; two grandchildren, Teresa Lee and Jeff Elmore, both of Nevada; two great-grandsons, Kevin Lee and Scott Lee, both of Nevada, five step-children, numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Annabell Chubick, Blue Springs, Mo. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Hurley, and eight siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. Friends may call now and until the hour of service.
Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
