The building boom is here

This season has been the season of building and improvements in Nevada, and no town in the state has enjoyed a more substantial building boom than this city has. The nation, the states, the county and the city have taken part in the boom. A magnificent new addition has just been completed at the asylum -- the government has given a $50,000 appropriation for a handsome new Post Office building, the county has voted $75,000 for a magnificent fire proof court house, and Nevada has voted $50,000 for a modern high school building. Four new structures in one season is a record that few, if any cities the size of Nevada can boast of and invite the neighbors to sit-up and take notice.

Believe bug infestation under control

The chinch bug infestation is pretty well under control, Lester Thornton, assistant county agent, said today, and is no longer posing a great problem to Vernon County farmers.

Mr. Thornton said the grasshoppers are starting in now but they can be controlled by proper precautionary measures.

The grasshoppers spotted throughout the county are moving into the fields and pastures as the weeds at the edge of the fields mature. They will attack corn, soybeans, sudan and anything which is nice and green. Mr. Thornton said the damage is slight but the hoppers will have to be sprayed with a heavier application of poison if they are to be controlled.
