Says he was held up

Clyde Sinclair, who spent Sunday here, and returned to Nevada early Tuesday morning, was held up and robbed on his arrival to that city.

Clyde left here on the night train. The 11 o'clock train that left Rich Hill for Nevada, however was two hours late, and he did not arrive at the latter town until about 2 o'clock in the morning. On reaching the corner of Main and Ash streets while walking homeward he was confronted by two highway robbers who stepped from behind a tree and ordered him to throw up his hands. Clyde was not slow in responding to the request, but in doing so he managed to jerk his watch from his vest pocket and hold it up also. The robbers then went throughout his pockets and relieved him of $17.80, a check for $3.50 and a finger ring.

Some days it just doesn't pay

Gene Pitts of Kansas City, Kan., was in the county jail Saturday, no doubt convinced that some days it just doesn't pay to get up in the morning.

Last Monday, Mr. Pitts was fined $100 and cost in Magistrate Court on charges of driving while under the influence of intoxicating beverages. He was arrested last Saturday night in the Bunnville area after backing into a parked car.

He engaged a Fort Scott attorney to help him solve this problem. After being fined Pitts gave Sheriff Les Hunt a check for $112.

In payment for his services, according to Sheriff Hunt, Pitts also gave the attorney a check ... the check bounced. The attorney hot-footed it to Kansas City and brought Mr. Pitts back to Nevada where he is now serving out the fine.
