Griffons back home today with Derby doubleheader
Herald-Tribune
NEVADA -- The Nevada Griffons were scheduled to be home today as they host the Derby Twins in a Jayhawk League doubleheader at Lyons Stadium.
The Griffons are trying to snap a seven-game league losing streak after being swept in Liberal, Kan., in five games last week.
Nevada is also trying to make a late push to avoid the cellar in the Jayhawk League. The Griffons are currently 7-22 in the league, while the Twins come in following a three-game series at El Dorado, Kan., Friday and Saturday. Derby was 14-12 in the league going into the series, putting them in fourth place among the six teams.
The Twins lead the season series with Nevada 3-1. The Griffons split a doubleheader at home against Derby on June 10.
Nevada has 11 league games remaining and the closest team to them in the standings is the Joplin Slashers, who are 12-18. The Griffons and Slashers still have five games against each other remaining. Three of Nevada's seven league wins have come against Joplin.
