Assaulted and robbed

Roy Houd, a farmer boy from Metz township, is staying with Dr. Petty and spending a few days at the reunion. Last night about 10 p.m., as he left the grounds he was assaulted and robbed by two young men just after having passed the supply store. They grabbed him and struck him in the face, bleeding his nose. He fought them as best he could and made his escape, but not until after he reached his destination and related his experience to the doctor did he miss six dollars, as the idea of being robbed had not occurred to him as the purpose of the assault. He says it was dark and he would not be able to identify his assailants.

Reasons for early school opening

In reply to several inquiries by parents of youngsters in the Nevada R-5 schools in regard to the early starting date for the schools this year, Supt. C.H. Jones Jr., is sued the following statement on the matter today:

"Several patrons have asked about the starting date of school. This statement is issued for their benefit."

There is no compelling reason to justify any specific starting date for school. The law does not provide a starting date. Some Missouri schools start in July, a large number start the week before Labor Day, some start the second week in September, and I suppose the majority start the day following Labor Day.

Sever factors were considered in setting the Aug. 27, as the starting date for Nevada schools.
