Season championship feature races rained out from Aug. 26 were run at the beginning of the evening, with trophy presentation following those races. The 2006 Track Champions are: Late Model -- Jack Simmons, Erie, Kan.; Modified -- Kevin Morrow, Nevada; Street Stock -- Denny Chrisenbery, Bronaugh; Factory Stock -- Shawn Hendren, Nevada; and Mini Stock -- Matt Rose, Liberal. The closest race this year was in the Modified Division. Kevin Morrow edged out Craig Wood by just 10 points for the championship.

After the points championships were completed, the Labor Day Special races took place. Excellent racing and lots of action kept the fans on hand. We also had a visit from the Midwest Outlaw Lightning Sprints. For added excitement, Scott Allen spun and tipped over during heat races. He was okay and was able to run in the Feature. Adding to the excitement the cars of Tiny Joles and Ralph Danner both were showing fire and the fires had to be extinguished by track officials. Don't quit coming to the racetrack just because the points race is over. This week is the annual Outlaw night and we expect to see all kinds of billboards, wings and spoilers on the cars. You will want to see how these make the cars look different and how much faster they can go. The racing is always exciting at Nevada Speedway and you never know what will happen.

The Late Model championship Feature started off with Donnie Timmerman in the lead. Charlie Reed went for a wild ride into the retaining fence causing the yellow flag to fly and an original lineup restart was called. Jack Simmons gained the lead this time. Shannon Phillips racing hard was able to gain the lead and collect the win, his first feature win in a late model car. Simmons captured the championship. Labor Day Special Heat race winners were Steve Johnson, Joplin and Donnie Timmerman, El Dorado Springs. Johnson got the lead at the start of the Feature. Several yellow flags flew during this race, which closed the field behind Johnson for restarts. Johnson led start to finish to collect the win, his first of the season.

The Modified championship Feature started off with contenders Kevin Morrow and Craig Wood on the front row. Morrow gained the lead and held it through the balance of the race to collect the win and the championship by 10 points over Wood. Labor Day Special heat race winners were Kevin Morrow, Nevada, Justin Folk, Iola, Kan., and Rusty Skaggs, Fort Scott, Kan. Morrow took the lead at the start of the Feature. Brent Bollinger brought out the yellow flag as he ran over a retaining tire and had to be lifted off. Bollinger brought out another yellow flag as he bounced off the wall and collected Slade Williams. Morrow maintained the lead and collected the win, his sixth of the season.

The Street Stock championship Feature started off with contenders Denny Chrisenbery and Karl Lehmann racing side by side around the track for several laps before Chrisenbery was able to gain the lead. A yellow flew as Lehmann coasted to a stop and this closed the field behind Chrisenbery for the restart. Lehmann went to the pits for a quick tire change and rejoined the race at the back of the field. Lehmann was racing hard and gained second place back but was not able to get the lead. Chrisenbery claimed the win and the Championship. Labor Day heat race winners were Olin Wyland, Mulberry, Kan., and Doug Chrisenbery, Bronaugh. Wyland got the lead at the start of the Feature. Dustin Beisley went spinning bringing out a yellow flag and closing the field behind Wyland for the restart. Wyland led all the way to collect the win, his second of the season.

The Factory Stock Championship B-Feature started off with Drew Hendren getting the lead and he quickly lost it to Bobby Highfill. Davie Jessen came from the back, grabbed the lead and collected the win. Jessen and Highfill moved to the back of the A-Feature. The A-Feature got underway with Shawn Hendren in the lead. He led all the way and captured the win and claimed the championship. He has the only Mopar powered car to win a championship this year. Labor Day heat race winners were Zac Simmons, Erie, Kan., Tiny Joles, Fort Scott, Kan., and Billy Shadden, Osawatomie, Kan. Shawn Hendren got the lead at the start of the B-Feature. Hendren, Mark Selsor and Chris Hendren moved to the back of the A-Feature. Simmons got the lead at the start of the A-Feature. Ralph Danner went spinning and his car was flaming. Track officials quickly extinguished the fire and he went to the pits. This closed the field behind Simmons for the restart. Mark Selsor spun, bringing out the yellow flag and closing the field behind Simmons for the restart. Tiny Joles' car was showing fire around the rear wheels and once again track officials put out the fire. Joles was able to remain in the race. Simmons held the lead, start to finish, to claim his third win of the season.

The Mini Stock Championship Feature started with Matt Rose in the lead. Rose went high into the corner, which allowed Brent Knight and Brandon Leer to pass him. Knight held the lead through the balance of the race to claim the win. Knight won the race and Rose claimed the championship. Labor Day heat race winners were Matt Rose, Liberal, and Brent Knight, Jasper. Rose got the early lead at the start of the Feature. Knight was able to pass him, taking the lead. Warren Highley went spinning, bringing out the yellow flag and closing the field behind Knight for the restart. On the last lap Brandon Leer gained the lead and as they raced down to the checkered flag a slower car got in front of them. Both cars went across the line side by side and the win was awarded to Knight. This was his fifth win of the season.
