John Linden Post, 67, a life-long Vernon County resident and insurance agent, passed away suddenly at his home in Nevada, Mo., on Dec. 23, 2006. He was born on May 16, 1939, in Nevada, Mo., the son of John Edward Post and Neva Claudia Ames Post. His childhood home was in Bronaugh, Mo., where he attended all 12 years of school and graduated from Bronaugh High School in 1957. He attended college two years at Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kan.

Linden was married on Feb. 28, 1960, to Ronda Jean Hinds at the Moundville Christian Church with the Rev. Pliney Elliott of the Nevada First Christian Church officiating. Linden and Ronda made their home in Nevada all their married lives.

Linden farmed with his father until he went to work for John O. Morrison in the insurance business. He has been an Independent Insurance Agent since September 1960. In May 1961, he purchased the Morrison Insurance Agency which then became the Morrison-Post Insurance Agency. The agency incorporated in 1982.

He was active in his church and community. He was on the Nevada Safety Council which was a division of Missouri Safety Council in 1963; served on Local Draft Board 123 from 1972 until the draft was discontinued in 1976; board secretary of the Nevada/Vernon County Chamber of Commerce in 1973; co-president of Nevada middle school PTA in 1974 which was the first year of classes at the Middle School; president of Nevada High School Booster Club in 1979; hosted a foreign exchange student, Tor Skeie, in 1979-1980; member of the Nevada Fire Prevention Board. His memberships include the First Christian Church where he served as a deacon and was currently serving as a trustee; Nevada Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow; Nevada Elks Club; Independent Insurance Agents of Missouri; Continental Insurance Company--Farm Pro Agent where he served in the past as national chairman; Gideon's International; and the 8 o'clock coffee club. His hobbies included woodworking, camping and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Ronda; two sons, J.L. ( John Linden Post II), St. Louis, Mo., and Jeffery Linn Post and wife, Gail, Nevada, Mo.; one grandson, Kevin Gene Post of Nevada, Mo.; foreign exchange son, Tor Skeie and wife Hronn, their children Marius, Malin, and Marita of Norway; one sister, Betty Garton and husband, Bob, Moundville, Mo.; and one brother, Edward Post and wife, Bernadine, Bronaugh, Mo; one uncle, Dr. Elmer Post and wife Joyce, Nevada, Mo.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Chapel were at 10 a.m., today, Dec. 27, at the Nevada First Christian Church with the Rev. Bill Platt officiating assisted by Justin Brodie. David Rorabaugh was the soloist and Bradley Garton organist. Pallbearers were nephews, Bryan Garton, Bradley Garton, Russ Hinds, Rodney Hinds, Jason Hinds and John Thomas Post. Honorary pallbearers were Garry Dade, Gary Balk, Jim Guthrie, John Elmer Phipps, Jerry Janes, Dan Sherrell, and the 8 o'clock coffee club. Interment was in Newton Cemetery.
