Thomas R. Reedy Sr., 99, Nevada, Mo., died Sunday, May 27, 2007, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada.
He was born Aug. 27, 1907, the third of 18 children in Vernon County, Mo., to Samuel J. Reedy and Martha Leland Mitchell Reedy. He was married April 19, 1941, in Vernon County, to Frances Marie Burris. She preceded him in death Dec. 22, 2003.
Mr. Reedy was a lifelong resident of Vernon County. He grew up in the Walker and Harwood area and graduated eighth grade from the Moss School. Thomas farmed and was a carpenter all his working life. He was an avid gardener and worked for Green Thumb in Nevada until his retirement. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Walker and the Modern Woodmen of America.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas R. Reedy Jr. and his wife Virginia, Kidder, Mo. and Jerry Reedy and his wife Glenda, Moundville, Mo.; one daughter, Martha Waltrip and her husband Jim, Nevada; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great- grandchildren; one brother, William Elmer Reedy, the state of Oregon; seven sisters, Grace Smith and Martha Lytle both of Butler, JewelI Ellerman. Harwood, Betty Percy and Nellie Shaw, both of El Dorado Springs, Sarah Hart and Bonnie Rutherford, both of the state of Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 31, at Ferry Funeral Horne, Nevada, with the Rev. Bill Platt officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Walker.
Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening between 7 and 8 p.m.
The family suggests that memorials may be made, in his honor, to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
