Marvin Wayne Shumate, 57, formerly of Nevada, Mo., passed away on April 27, 2007, at Tulane Hospital, New Orleans, La. He was born Aug. 31, 1949, in Kansas City, Mo., to Lawrence Dale Shumate and Norma Jean Sisney Shumate.
Marvin grew up in Modesto, Calif., and graduated from Modesto High School. He served in the U.S. Army for four years as an attorney. He then served in the U.S. Navy. Later, Marvin went into nursing and worked as a registered nurse in Kansas City, Mo., for a number of years. He had lived and worked in New Orleans, La., for the past three years.
Survivors include his mother, Norma Shumate, Nevada; two sisters, Sandra Tamplen, Klamath Falls, Ore., and Pam Shumate, Nevada; two nieces; two nephews; several cousins; and friend, Dana Roberts, Kansas City, Mo.
Committal services will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, June 2, at Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo, Mo. Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
