100 years ago

Culver was discharged; was known here

G.N. Culver, the smooth talking man who sold soap and patent gates here last summer, and who was arrested in El Dorado Springs by Mackinaw, Ill., officers on charge of forgery, was tried last week. His aged mother, so it is alleged, testified before the grand jury that her son had forged her name to a note, but hen placed upon the witness stand failed to remember and Culver was discharged. It is reported that eh officers are going to ask the grand jury to indict Culver's mother.

50 years ago

Montevallo youth is training for post

Albert Dale Shellhorn, Montevallo, is taking training for a highway technicians job with the State Highway Commission in a special summer program at the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy at Rolla.

Mr. Shellhorn will complete the training in mid-July. The program is designed to produce technicians to supplement the present engineering staff of the commission.
