Freak of a hailstorm

JOPLIN, Mo. -- Through a remarkable freak of the hailstorm that swept over this city this afternoon no damage was done to the green house owned by Edward Teas while the hot house and gardens owned by H.A. Hall, near by, were damaged to the extent of 2,500. The storm lasted eight minutes. Every greenhouse in the city but this one was damaged.

Omaha expert to inspect logjam blocking river

Farmers in the area west of Schell City and north of Deerfield Saturday afternoon expressed anxiety as the backwaters of the big Osage River, caused by a logjam in the river five miles west of Schell City, continued to rise and spread over additional thousands of acres.

It was estimated yesterday that the waters had risen another 18 inches in the past couple of days and were spreading over additional thousands of acres of farm and pasture lands. The floodwaters and the river were not running -- just standing still and getting deeper -- is the way one farmer described it.
