Opal Mae Anderson

Opal Mae Anderson, 88, Richards, passed away on Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kan., after an illness of several months. She was born on Oct. 27, 1919, in Roy, N.M., to Benjamin Charles Grunig and Edna Beatrice DePew Grunig. She married Richard Norman Anderson on Jan. 1, 1937, in Kansas City, Mo., and he preceded her in death.

Opal was born and spent her childhood in New Mexico. Following her marriage, Opal and her husband lived in a variety of locals before settling in Rich Hill, in 1949 and spent the remainder of her life in this area. She worked as a physician's assistant for many years in Rich Hill, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rich Hill PTA, and was an active member of her church, the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeri Senkevech and close companion, Elton Fox, Richards, and Bobbi Thompson, Columbia, Mo.; four grandchildren, Gary Thompson, Columbia, Rick Thompson, Bavaria, Germany, Jessica Senkevech, Rich Hill, and Justin Senkevech, Richards; five great-grandchildren Luke, Lawren, Matthew, Kyle, and Kelsey; one sister Vemetta Thorp, Rich Hill, and one brother, Benjamin Grunig, St. Augustine, Fla.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 21, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Brother Bill Perkey officiating. Committal will follow at a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery, Rich Hill. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
