Letter to the Editor

Nevada/Vernon County Salvation Army thanks you

Friday, January 11, 2008

Dear editor:

We try to teach our children to say "please" when we want something and "thank you" when we get it. Each year our local Salvation Army unit asks that you please be generous with your money and your time during the holidays so that the lives of those less fortunate can be a little better.

This past year you answered our plea by donating more than $12,000 to the Vernon County Salvation Army unit. You volunteered more than 400 hours to shiver in the cold and ring bells and get up before daylight to help children shop for Christmas gifts. The money and time donated to the local Salvation Army unit stays here in Vernon County to benefit your neighbors.

Our budget also includes the interest earned on some large gifts that were left by individuals who specifically named the Vernon County Salvation Army unit in their Wills and Trusts as beneficiary.

The Salvation Army is most visible between Thanksgiving and Christmas when the sights and sounds of the bell ringers and their red kettles are everywhere. Keep in mind that need has no season.

Since you responded so generously when we asked for your help, we now extend a heartfelt "Thank You!"

The Vernon County Salvation Army Board of Directors
