Ruby Myrtle Peoples

Ruby Myrtle Peoples, age 96, a resident of Fort Scott, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at the Mercy Health Center, in Fort Scott. She was born Dec. 29, 1911, in Bourbon County, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas Clifford Johnson and Marietta Jones Johnson. She married Josiah Peoples on Nov. 14, 1945, at Mound City, Kan. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1990. Mrs. Peoples was a member of the Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church and the St. Anne's Altar Society. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and quilting. In her earlier years, she volunteered as a 4-H project and community leader. She also made teddy bears for the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include three daughters, Sherral Fry and husband Leon, of Hiattville, Connie Peoples, of Tucson, Ariz.; and Violet Verderber and husband, L.J., of Conroe, Texas. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Dennis Fry and wife Julie, Hiattville, and Lisa Jones and her husband Patrick, Little Rock, Ark.; and four great-grandchildren: Hannah, Gavin, Gwenyth, and Byron Fry.

The Rev. Darrin May will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m., Monday, March 24, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the St. Michael's Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Sunday, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary's School and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S.
