The efforts of the Spring City Revitalization Group to breathe new life into the city of El Dorado Springs are raising eyebrows and generating plenty of questions from people in other cities, who hope to find a way to refresh their own communities, according to a recent report from the group.

"Since obtaining the Community Development Block Grant in 2006, cities around the state are noticing the dedication of our community to this project. Although actual ground work, such as sidewalks and lighting have not physically begun, the business and building owners have started the revitalization project," said Rachel Parker-Healy, the group's vice president.

Parker-Healy cited a long list of businesses and attractions that are making improvements, such as the Opera House Theater, the Broadway buildings, and several other projects in El Dorado Springs.

A drive down Main Street reveals a changing scenery, with new awnings on several buildings, evidence of renewed spirit, according to Parker-Healy.

"In light of this progress, other cities, such as Windsor, Lexington, Ozark and even cities in Kansas have taken a special interest in the progressive steps El Dorado Springs and SCRG are taking regarding he process of stimulating the downtown. … These cities are not only inquiring, they are expressing their thoughts and views, and they are coming here to visit. It's an asset to El Dorado Springs that he revitalization process can generate its own revenue for the city simply by the example it sets."
