Margaret (Peggy) Sumner

Margaret (Peggy) Sumner, age 63, of Garnett, Kan., passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2008, at the Anderson County Hospital in Garnett, Kan.

She was born on Nov. 25, 1944, in Axtell, Kan., the daughter of Ted and Margaret (Meier) Studer. Peggy grew up and attended schools in Beattie, Kansas. She graduated from Emporia State University.

Peggy was united in marriage to Lloyd Sumner on June 15, 1968, at Beattie, Kan. One child, Kirk, was born to this union.

She was a career teacher and counselor. She taught at Kincaid; Crest, Kansas City, Kan.; Bishop Ward High School, in Kansas City; Medicine Lodge, Fort Scott; and retired from Anderson County. She made a great difference in many lives. She was a Roman Catholic.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Sumner, of the home; her son, Kirk Sumner and wife Robin; and grandson Mac; three brothers, Greg Studer and wife Maureen of Denton, Texas; Danny Studer and wife Vicki of Frankfort, Kan.; and John Studer, of Dallas, Texas; and numerous relatives.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 23, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Scipio, Kan. Burial will follow at 1 p.m., at Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort Scott. There will be a Rosary at 6 p.m., on Sunday, June 22, at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Scipio, Kan. The family will greet friends following the Rosary. The casket will be closed the day of the service. At the request of Peggy, the family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to PEO Chapter Y Scholarship Fund and left in care of the funeral home.
