Letter to the Editor

Habitat home is truly a community effort

Thursday, July 10, 2008

Dear Editor:

I am writing in response to the article you ran regarding the building now in progress on our community's l0th Nevada, Mo., Area Habitat for Humanity home. Thank you so much for your interest and the information you shared. It is our belief that it is because the people of the Nevada area understand the Habitat for Humanity philosophy that they are so incredibly generous and supportive of its goals and objectives.

The aim of the organization is to eliminate sub-standard housing and to provide home buyers with the opportunity to secure simple, decent homes for themselves and their families. In order to qualify for participation as a home buyer, applicants must be financially able to make house payments, be presently living in sub-standard housing and be willing to partner with Habitat in building their home. In order to qualify as a volunteer, individuals must be over the age of 18 and be willing to work with others who are interesting, fun loving, gregarious, companionable and industrious. Some of the remarkable volunteers for this year's "build" include, as you mentioned, Erwin Construction Company, Tom Taylor (this year's construction engineer) Barton Lumber Company, C and L Plumbing, and the many Board Members, Potato Lunch workers (and customers!) and others who make this an opportunity to serve others. We invite anyone who is interested to come join us.

Sincerely,

Bob Beaver,

construction coordinator
