Crowder offers school district its day care program

Friday, July 18, 2008

During a regular meeting Wednesday night, Dr. David Stephens told the Nevada R-5 board of education that Crowder College is offering any school district that wishes to take over its day care program, which teaches students how to work with children from birth to kindergarten, the opportunity to do so. The college was offering a mobile classroom and the curriculum to run the program. Stephens recommended the board turn the offer down, at least for the time being.

"If we accept this we would have to honor the requirements of the grant," Stephens said. "There is also the fact the program is grant funded and the district would be obliged to honor the grant requirements for the first year."

After discussing the matter the board decided to let the matter rest and consider it again when there was time to integrate the program into the district's programs without rushing into anything.
