Shirley Towles

Shirley Towles, 86, of Fulton, Kan., passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at the Guest Home Estates in Fort Scott, Kan. She was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Karl Theodore and Pauline (Heins) Seested. She married Robert Towles, Feb. 3, 1940, in Topeka, Kan. He preceded her in death March 18, 1996.

She graduated from Shawnee Mission Rural High School, and she worked as a bookkeeper for the Greeley Gas Company for 34 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Fulton, Kansas, was an officer in the U.M.W., a member of the Fre-Osa E.H.U., and the Friendship Club of Fulton, and she was active in Farm Bureau.

Shirley is survived by two nephews, John Seested and his wife Janice, of Fulton, Kan., and Rex Smith and his wife Raquel, of Gardnerville, Nevada; two nieces, Margaret Hansen, of Stanley, Kan., and Shirley Krull Sessions, of Elk City, Okla.; six great-nephews, Kevin Seested, Brian Hansen and wife Sandra, Dan Mannering and his wife Monique, Courtney, Matthew, and Kile Smith; three great-nieces, Jennifer Seested Bertels and husband Phil, Stacey Hanson, and Nicole Smith; four great-great-nephews Matthew and Daniel Mannering, Kolby Seested, and Leo Bertels, and one great-great-niece, Emme Hansen. In addition to her husband, Robert, Shirley was also preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Karl T. Seested Jr.

The Rev. Ken Wood will conduct funeral services 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 6, at the Fulton United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to either the Fulton United Methodist Church or the Fairview Cemetery, and may be sent to or left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall St., P.O.
