Cecil C. McKenzie, 88, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, in Joplin, Mo., following a short illness. He was born July 24, 1920, near Liberal, Mo., to Roy Ralph McKenzie and Ola Nettie Overstreet McKenzie. He married Mable Ruth Shields on June 7, 1941, in Harrisonville, Mo., and she preceded him in death in 1997.

Mr. McKenzie was reared and lived his life in the Moundville/Nevada area. He farmed and later worked and retired from the Nevada State Hospital. He served in the United States Army from February 1945 to January 1946, serving in Japan. He was a member of the Moundville Christian Church.

Survivors include one son, Dennis Leroy McKenzie and his wife Susan, Nevada; three daughters, Cecile Kay Von Holten and her husband Darrell, Arlington, Texas, Patty Ann Campbell and her husband John, Nevada, and Gail Wysong, Nevada; nine grandchildren, Kenneth McKenzie and his wife Tammy, Lansing, Kan., Shalene McGowan and her husband Brian, Appleton, Ark., Rheagan McKenzie, Milo, Mo., Erinn Irwin and her husband Cory, Nevada, Kelly Butaud and husband Arthur, Arlington, Texas, Gregory L. Campbell and his wife Margie, Richards, Mo., Gina Whitlock and her husband Rick, El Dorado Springs, Mo., Jan F. Wysong and his wife Judy, Modesto, Calif., and Gara Orme and and her husband Gilbert, Chandler, Ariz.; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Joe McKenzie, Carl Junction, Mo.; two sisters; Melba Watts, Helendale, Calif., Marjean Donahue and her husband Richard, Simi Valley, Calif., and special friend, Katherine Fast; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by one son, Gary Whitworth, his parents, and one brother, Cyril McKenzie.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at 1:30 p.m., at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with pastor David Rorabaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Welborn Cemetery, Moundville, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Welborn Cemetery or the Vernon County Cancer Relief Fund in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
