Hazel Fern Ewing

Hazel Fern Ewing, 93, Webb City, Mo., formerly of Richards, Mo., passed away on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at Webb City Health and Rehab Center in Webb City, Mo., following a brief illness. She was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Cleveland, Mo., to Theophlus Henry MacDaniel and Georgia Cook MacDaniel. She married Vern Ewing in 1942 in Vernon County, Mo., and he preceded her in death in 1972.

Fern moved to Richards, Mo., at the age of 2 and grew up in Richards. She lived in Joplin for two years and graduated from Joplin High School in 1934. Following high school, she came back to Richards where she lived for more than 60 years. Hazel has lived in Webb City for the past 10 years to be near her great-niece.

Survivors include one great-niece, Sue Wells, Webb City, Mo.; two great-nephews, Bud Simons, Cedar Creek, Mo., and Archie T. Simons, Girard, Kan. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and two brothers.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 5, at Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, Mo., with pastor Stan Parkison officiating. Friends may call now and until 12:30 p.m., on Thursday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the National Foundation for the Blind in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
