Golda Mattie Ames, 100, Nevada, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Christian Health Care in Nevada. She was born July 11, 1908, in Sullivan County, Mo., to James Russell Ogle and Maggie Ethel Clabough Ogle. She married Lyman P. Ames on May 1, 1926, in Sullivan County, Mo. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1993.

Golda grew up in Sullivan County and attended school there. She went to cosmetology school in Kansas City. Golda came to Vernon County in 1932. She was a homemaker and was a babysitter for 30 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nevada and of the Ruth Earp Circle in the church.

Survivors include four children, Larry R. Ames and his wife Beverly, Raymore, Mo., Joyce Newby and her husband Tom, Nevada, Paul Ames and his wife Donna, Ozark, Mo., and Angela Hollenberg and her husband Gary, Nevada; 10 grandchildren, Brent Ames, Kansas City, Mo., Eric Ames, Kansas City, Mo., Charlotte Moody, Carl Junction, Mo., Russell Newby, Republic, Mo., Clint Newby, Ellisville, Mo., Lori Ames, Kansas City, Mo., Andy Ames, Ozark, Mo., Amy Hollenberg, Los Angeles, Calif., Lindsay Hollenberg, Nevada, and Auna Hollenberg, Nevada; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Nile Ogle, Nevada, and Junior Ogle, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Ogle, Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Gerald LeRoy Ames; four brothers, Wayman Ogle, Lester Ogle, Duane Ogle, and Kenneth Ogle; and three sisters, Winnie Ames, Joan Coventry, and Violet Ogle.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 14, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Ralph Clark and the Rev. Greg Ferree officiating. The family will receive friends 10-11 a.m. Saturday morning prior to the service and friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Newton Burial Park.
