Funeral services for Gladys E. Barr, 97, of Denison, will be held at 10 a.m., today, at Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard. The family was at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m., on Friday, April 3, 2009. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Jerry Spradling will officiate.

Pallbearers will be: Daryl Hixson, Wayne Barr, Shane Murphy, Ty Sanders, Johnny Brown and Dale Phillips.

Mrs. Barr died on March 30, at Stonebrook of Denison.

Mrs. Barr was born Aug. 15, 1911, in Rice, Texas, the daughter of James Thomas and Rhoda Thomas Gregory Lee. She married Roy Harold Barr, Cpl., U.S. Army, Sept. 28, 1933, in El Paso, Texas. Mr. Barr died in April 1963 after many years of heart problems.

Mrs. Barr graduated high school at Anthony, New Mexico, in 1929 and attended Texas Tech at Lubbock, Texas, for one year.

After Mr. Barr's death, she remained in Denison and was a Tupperware dealer for 14 years. She lived in her own home on Denison's west side until September 2008, when she took up residence at Stonebrook Assisted Living Facility. She has been a member of the Morton Street Church of Christ since she moved to Denison in 1962 and she has been the oldest member of this church since 2005.

Surviving are her sons, Roy Kenneth and wife, Sylvia Barr; Robert Harold Barr and Glinda Ballard; daughter Margaret (Peggy) Ann and husband, Glenn Hixson; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by husband Roy Harold Barr, her parents, and one granddaughter.

Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard Street, Denison, Texas, is in charge of all arrangements.
