Inez LaVonne (Ijams) Revis

Inez LaVonne (Ijams) Revis, age 91, the daughter of Clyde Elmer and Mary Elizabeth (Thompson) Ijams was born March 12, 1918 in Cambridge, Ill., and passed from this life on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Christian Health Care, in Nevada.

At a young age, Inez, along with her family moved to the Schell City area where she attended school and graduated with the class of 1935. On Nov. 24, 1942, she was united in marriage to Joe Revis at the courthouse in Nevada. Inez worked as a "Rosie the Riveter," as a telephone operator in Schell City, and for a time at the State Hospital and Nellie Don. She loved to quilt and do needlework, and loved gardening and going to the Farmers Market

In the early 1950s she was baptized in the creek just east of the Prairie Valley School, and was a longtime and devoutly faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Schell City, Inez always helped with church and community functions including the Belvior Club and Harwood Senior Citizens. She was known for her excellence in pie making, especially coconut cream.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents; seven siblings Ross Ijams, Edna Kroger, Ward Ijams, Lillian Peters, Irene Dade, Dale Ijams, and Raymond Ijams; and her husband Joe. Survivors include her brother Earl Ijams, of Schell City; nieces and nephews, Larry Dade, Garry Dade, Earlene Christie, Ron Ijams, Carol Mandernach, Maria Applegate, Janet Ijams, Sherry Daily, Willa Lynch, Wilma Grainge, Connie Humble, Christine, Carl, and Charlotte Ijams, Norma Ireland, Quanna Williams, and Cheryl Bogardus. Of special mention is Cheryl Lunday who was a wonderful friend and help to Inez in the, past few yews.

Funeral services for Inez LaVonne Revis are being held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 11, at the First Baptist Church in Schell City, with Doug Reynolds officiating. Musical selections were provided by Kelly Bell and Kelly Davis. Pallbearers are: Ervin Goodman, Dennis Vantellman, Doug Vantellman, Chris Gaines, Eric Christie, and Jud Applegate.

Interment was in the Green Lawn Cemetery in Schell City. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Belvior Club or the First Baptist Church in Schell City. Arrangements for Mrs. Revis were entrusted to the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City.
