Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Renovating the City-County Community Center in Nevada will take center stage this week with the Nevada City Council holding the second readings of ordinance closing part of Hunter Street and approving the design build contract with Crossland Construction Company for the community center project, during a regular meeting set for 7 p.m., inside council chambers in the city's Public Safety building, 120 S. Ash.

Additionally, on Thursday the City Council and the parks board will be conducting a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. in the community center, 200 N. Ash, Nevada, for public input on the project to renovate the existing facility and to build a new gymnasium on the north side of the current building.

In addition to finalizing the community center project the council also plans to consider the first reading of an ordinance setting the fee for a five-year wastewater contribution permit fee at $500. They have also rescheduled the revocation hearing for National Tree Service.

Other items on the agenda include the appointment of Jeremy Akers to the planning commission and Mary Reinert and Lynda Jones to the IMPACT Tourism board, as well as consideration of bids for uniform shirts and caps for the city's summer recreation program and bids for switch equipment to upgrade the city's telephone system.

The council also will be considering the second readings of ordinances to approve an agreement with Vernon County for the city to provide them with telephone and Internet service; an agreement with the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commis-sion for a grant to purchase a new wheel chair accessible van and an ordinance amending the organization of the planning commission.

Other issues the council plans to evaluate during tonight's meeting include an ordinance correcting scrivener's errors in the city's code book; amending the public safety department's budget to add a grant for the "Click it or Ticket" project and a design build contract with Miller Construction, of El Dorado Springs, for a new parks maintenance building.
