Edward L. Riggs, 67, Nevada, passed away Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born May 30, 1942, in Nevada, to George Elmer Riggs and Virginia Lee Hester Riggs. He was married July 1, 1967, in Fort Scott, to Sharon Neely and she survives of the home.

Mr. Riggs grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1960. In his youth he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and became an Eagle Scout. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 2175 and the B.P.O.E No. 566. He was co-chair of the Indian Creek Pow-Wow for 39 years. Ed worked for Nevada R-V School District for a number of years and later for the 3-M Corporation in Nevada from 1971 to 1996, retiring as a supervisor. He was an avid gun collector and outdoorsman.

In addition to his wife Sharon, survivors include three sons, Travis Riggs and Joan Sanders, Nevada, Dale Lipe, Nevada, and Scott Riggs, of the home; two granddaughters, Brittany Riggs, Joplin, and Ariel Lipe, Nevada; one nephew, Brian Wood and his wife Amy, Atlanta, Ga.; one niece, Lisa Barry and her husband David, Kansas City, Mo.; one sister Jane Frankmore and her family, La Junta, Colo.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Minton officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery in Nevada with Native American services by Winston "Cap" Ulrey.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada and the family receives friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening between 7 and 8.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made in his honor to either the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, or a charity of the donor's choice in care of Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada, MO 64772.
