Murder suspect's request for new judge granted; change of venue left up to new judge

Thursday, September 10, 2009

Garrett Mason, accused of killing two teenage girls, made a short appearance before Judge James Bickel. Attorneys for Mason had made two motions, one for a change of judge and one for a change of venue.

Bickel ruled only on the change of judge, saying the new judge would rule on any other motions.

"I'm going to send this to the supreme court for the assignment of a new judge who will rule on the matter of a change of venue," Bickel said.

Mason faces two charges of first degree murder and two charges of armed criminal action in connection with the May 24 stabbing deaths of two Nevada teens, Anne Reed, 18, and Kylie Leyva, 14.
