Delbert Dean "Sonny" Readinger

Delbert Dean "Sonny" Readinger, 74, formerly of Fort Scott, more recently of Nevada, died Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 14, 2009, at the Nevada Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 16, 1934, in Harwood, Mo., the son of Charles Frank and Emily Elizabeth (Allison) Readinger. He married Leota Carpenter Oct. 16, 1954. They later divorced. He married Eva Mae Bowen Graham Nov. 3, 1984, and she survives of the home.

He was an avid poker player, liked to bowl, loved to hunt, and he loved baseball; especially the Atlanta Braves. He was in the Naval Reserve, Army Reserve, and National Guard. He was a past member of the Elks, and he was of the Catholic faith.

In addition to his wife Eva, survivors include his daughter Debra Martin and husband Larry; two sons, Loren Readinger and wife Julie, and Randall Readinger and wife Betsy, all of Fort Scott; three stepdaughters, Vicky Ray and husband David of Tulsa, Okla., Bonnie Bailey and husband Larry of Nevada, and Jenet Hill and husband Martin, of Nevada; two cousins, David Hoskins of Fort Scott, and Frank "Hoss" Hoskins of St. Louis, Mo.; first wife Leota; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a nephew, Gary Dunn.

The Rev. Darrin May recited the Rosary at 6 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 16, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., following the Rosary service.
