Ginger Hickman Rogers, 76, Independence, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Research Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., surrounded by her family. Ginger was born to C.W. and Lydia Louise (Tyree) Hickman on Sept. 7, 1933, in Sheldon, Mo.

Ginger joined the First Baptist Church of Nevada in 1948 and continued her spiritual journey throughout her life. She retired from a long career in Civil Service in 1993, having worked for several agencies in the U.S. and Europe.

Ginger's greatest joy and enduring strength came from her devotion to her family, particularly in her role as a mother and grandmother. Her interests were wide ranging, always marked by a spirit of adventure and endless curiosity. Her zest for life, positive outlook, and unique ability to make anyone feel special in her presence has blessed lives immeasurably. She is greatly loved and will be missed forever.

Ginger is survived by her children, Susan Harris and her husband Kent, Olathe, Kan., Bradley Rogers, Huntsville, Ala., Catherine Tuttle, Grandview, Mo., and David Rogers, Nevada; grandchildren Kate Harris, Lawrence, Kan., Jonathan, Harris, Olathe, Kan., Lydia Hlinka, and her husband Martin; and one great-grandson Henry Hlinka, all living in Germany; two sisters Janie Swan and her husband Gordon, Independence, Mo., Shirley Cooper and her husband Bill, Wichita, Kan.; one brother Bill Hickman and his wife Argie, Deerfield, Mo.; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters Maxine Tudor, Leta Wallace, Martha Lou Evans, and Sharon Riley; four brothers Halbert, Hubert, Mark, and Douglas; and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Hirst.

Per her wishes, she had requested a graveside service, and that service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19, at Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, with the Rev. Terry Mosher officiating.

Friends may call now and until 1 p.m., on Monday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
