Naomi R. Lawrence, 95, retired secretary for the Loan Committee at Farm and Home Savings and Loan Company, died in Carmichael, Calif., Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009.
She was born, Naomi Ruth Fleming in May, Okla., Harper County on July 26, 1914, to Thomas H. Fleming and Mabel E. Robertson Fleming. Mrs. Lawrence graduated from May High School, taught for two years in country schools, and attended business school in Oklahoma City, Okla. After graduation, she served as legal secretary in Woodward, Okla.
She married Kenneth M. Lawrence on June 20, 1938 in Woodward, Okla. They moved to Iola, Kan., in 1946 and to a farm in Richards, Mo., in 1947.
The family moved to Nevada in 1948 where Mr. Lawrence was employed by Sears as manager in the home improvement department. Mrs. Lawrence was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Questers Sunday School Class and various women's civic organizations in Nevada.
Mrs. Lawrence enjoyed traveling, hiking, photography, mathematics, and accounting. She remains a beloved mother and grandmother.
Survivors include one son, Richard Lawrence of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; one daughter, Kendall Hjelmfelt of Fort Collins, Colo.; one sister, Marilyn Schaeffer of Topeka, Kan.; two brothers, Dr. Ralph Fleming of Accokeek, Md.; and Richard Fleming of Fort Scott, Kan.; and three grandchildren, Shawn Lawrence of the state of California and Trevor Hjelmfelt and Rebecca Keller of the state of Colorado. Mrs. Lawrence's first great-grandchild, Boden David Keller is expected Feb. 28, 2010.
Mrs. Lawrence was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Ethel Casler, Ida Lowry, and Dolores Hale and three brothers, Thomas, Norman, and James Fleming.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12, at the United Methodist Church in Nevada, with the Rev. Ralph Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada.
Friends may call now and until noon on Saturday, Dec. 12, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening, Dec. 11, between 5 and 6 p.m.
