Wyomia Uinta (Marriott) Mark

Wyomia Uinta (Marriott) Mark, of Ash Grove, Mo., passed away Jan. 14, 2010, at the Ash Grove Health Care Facility. She was born March 2, 1910, to William Oliver and Nellie Allie (Roberts) Marriott. She was married to William Basil Mark on June 20, 1928, at Santa Ana, Calif., and to this union four children were born: Mary Marcellene, Basil Eugene, Ronald Lee, and Paul Ralph.

Wyomia was born in the state of Wyoming and the county of Uinta, on a sheep ranch her grandfather chose her name because of this location. Wyomia experienced the "Oil Boom" in Texas and Orange County, Calif., with her parents. She graduated from Justin High School in California. She met and married William Basil Mark, who was also involved in the oil industry. They purchased a farm in Montevallo, Mo., in 1936 and moved here permanently in 1943. They farmed and raised cattle until retiring in 1973, when the moved to the Ash Grove area to be near their daughter.

Wyomia enjoyed singing and performed at many events. She also enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and several countries in Europe. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution. She also was a Past Worthy Matron of Sheldon Chapter 245 order of Eastern Star. She and Basil visited many Eastern Star Chapters with their special friend Mary Jane Truman. The Mark's were very active in the Montevallo Baptist Church, 4-H Clubs, White Shrine of Nevada, and the El Dorado Springs School System.

Wyomia was a faithful member and teacher at Center Baptist Church as long as she was able to attend.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, two brothers and a great grandson.

She is survived by her daughter Marcellene Mark, Ash Grove; sons and their wives, Eugene and Roberta, Sheldon, Mo., Mark and Phyllis and Paul and Kaye all of Springfield, Mo; Six grandchildren, Lorraine McHaffie and her Husband Stanley, Elaine Edwards and her husband Alan, Mike Mark and his wife Pam, Tim Mark and his wife Jeanne, Jeff Mark and his wife Imelda and Anita Clark; three stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be provided by Green Lawn North Funeral Home, Springfield, Mo. Private graveside service will be held. No visitation is planned.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, Memorials be made to Center Baptist Church or the Ash Grove Healthcare Facility and left in care of Green Lawn Funeral Home.
