Nevada police conduct alcohol sting

Saturday, January 16, 2010

The Nevada Police Department recently conducted an Alcohol Sales Compliance Project in the city. The goal of this project, the first one in at least a year, according to Captain Casey Crain, is to deter local businesses that sell alcoholic beverages from selling them to persons under the age of 21, according to a press release dated Jan. 12.

The release goes on to say that officers conducted compliance checks at 10 local businesses within the city limits of Nevada that sell alcoholic beverages. The project enlisted the assistance of a minor to do "controlled buys" of alcohol while officers observed, said Crain. The investigation resulted in the illegal sale of an alcoholic beverage to a minor at two of those businesses and charges are pending in those cases. Names of the businesses were not disclosed.

The Nevada Police Dapartment is committed to enforcing the ongoing problem of alcohol sales to minors, a press release said. They follow state guidelines during the compliance operations and "plan to start doing them on a regular basis," said Crain. The public is encouraged to report suspected violations to the Nevada Police Department at (417) 448-2710.
