Ione Fowler Guthrie, 100, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, where she had been a resident since October 2004. Ione was born Nov. 24, 1909, at Arcadia, Kan., to James T. Fowler and Olive (Lighlle) Fowler. She was the fourth child of a family of 14; her birth mother, Olive, died when Ione was 3 years old, leaving five children. Her dad then married Ada M. Davenport, of Arcadia, who was the only mother Ione ever really knew. She always praised "Momma" as never showing any difference between the first five children and the next nine children.

She enjoyed Easter eggs and love of the Christian church. She loved to travel and enjoyed time with friends and her brothers and sisters. She enjoyed her home and entertaining. She loved her 13 brothers and sisters and all the life events in their families.

After completing her education, Ione married Lawrence Lee Guthrie, of Mulberry, Kan., on Dec. 23, 1928. They were married for 44 years. Lawrence preceded her in death in 1972. To this marriage two children were born; one son, James Lee Guthrie and his wife Shirley, Billie Sue Guthrie McCullough and her husband Glenn. Other survivors: are grandchildren, J. Lee Guthrie and his wife Mary Love, Lawrence Mark Guthrie and his wife Janet, Glen Andrew McCullough and his wife Marie, Michael Guthrie McCullough and his wife Ellen, Jamie Sue McCullough; great-grandchildren, Erica Carol "Guthrie," Marci Ellen Guthrie Townsend and her husband Michael, Kristopher Lawrence McCullough and his wife Sonny, Jennifer Leigh McCullough, Brittany Glenn Crockett, Heath Guthrie McCullough; and one great-great-granddaughter, Kalli Ann McCullough; three sisters, Frances "Peachy" Bedene, Arma, Kan., Jo Ferraro, Nevada, and Helen Knoll, Frontenac, Kan.; brother David Fowler, of Burlingame, Kan.; several nieces and nephew; and her good friend, Veta Peterson.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Thelma Renfro, Ellen Jeter, and Doris Stelle; six brothers, Vernon, Paul, Glenn, Bill, George, and J.T.; and one grandchild, Melinda Susanne Guthrie.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 26, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories north of Pittsburg, Kan. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Vernon County Cancer Relief Fund or the Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 531313, Henderson, NV 89053 in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
