William Joseph "Bill" McDermott Jr., 59, Nevada, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at his home in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. He was born July 19, 1950, in Springfield, Mo., to William Joseph McDermott Sr. and Evelyn Louise Hembree McDermott.
Bill was born in Springfield and spent most all of his life in this area. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968-1976 serving in Vietnam and a number of other locales. He made his living primarily in antique restoration.
Survivors include Connie Heim, of the home; one daughter, Evelyn Michelle, Bowling Green, Ky.; four sisters, Eleanor Willson, Nevada, Betsey Medearis, Green Valley, Ariz., Regina Sewell, Troy, Mo,, and Patricia Olson, Plymouth, Wis.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., on Monday, March 8, at Ferry Funeral Home, with pastor Bill Smith officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery, Fort Scott, with military honors conducted at the cemetery. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
